    Joan Oró, un català universal [ JOSEP A. PLANA I CASTELLVÍ] L'autor es refereix a la vida i l'obra de l'eminent català Joan Oró, recentment traspassat, des de la coneixença ¿profunda i perllongada¿ del personatge. En efecte, les seves biografies enllaçades, fonamentalment durant el darrer quart de segle, li han permès copsar, de primera mà, la notorietat i la bonhomia del que es pot afirmar que ha estat un deis científics catalans més importants del segle XX, i que en un llibre recent ha estat qualificat com el "científic de la vida". I així, des de l'anècdota inicial, molt lligada a la ciutat de Lleida, l'autor ens permet fer un viatge per la biografia de Joan Orò: els estudis, les frustrades experiències empresariais, l'aventura nord-americana, la investigaciò i la docència, l'activitat política i cívica, entre d'altres questions. En definitiva, a l'article podem apreciar no solament els aspectes científics que van fer excel¿lir Joan Orò, sinò també els trets vitals que ens permeten traçar-ne l'itinerari humà, i que són ben prototípics d'una persona alhora universal i compromesa amb la realitat del seu país, Catalunya.

    Joan Oró, a universal Catalan [ JOSEP A. PL ANA I CASTELLVÍ ] The author refers to the life and work of the eminent and recently deceased Catalan Joan Orò, having known him well and for a long time. Indeed, his string of biographies, basically during the last quarter of the century, allowed him to gauge the fame and goodness of one of the most important Catalan scientists of the 20th Century, who was dubbed the "life scientist" in a recent book. Thus, and starting out with an anecdote, very related to the city of Lleida, the author takes us on a trip through the biography of Joan Oró (his studies, his frustrated business experiences, his North-American adventure, research and teaching, his political and civic activity, among other questions). In a few words, the article gives us an insight not only into the scientific aspects underpinning the excellence of Joan Orò, but also the facets of his life that show us his personal evolution, the prototype of a universal individual, albeit deeply committed to the reality of his country, Catalonia.
