    L'ideal nacionalista d'UDC [MIGUEL COLL I ALENTORN] Aquest article constitueix un extracte de la conferència que Miguel Coll i Alentorn va pronunciar a la seu central d'UDC, el 1934, sobre l'ideal nacionalista d'Uniò Democràtica de Catalunya. Destaca la defensa de la necessària distinció entre regionalisme ¿encunyat pels partits i els corrents conservadors, amb la Lliga al capdavant¿ i el nacionalisme que defensa UDC. Coll i Alentorn els considera antitètics i incompatibles. En parlar de la doctrina d'Unió Democràtica de Catalunya, exigeix per a Catalunya la reconeixença de la seva personalitat nacional i, arran de la proclamaciò del fet que Catalunya és una nació, en resulta una conseqüência ineludible: el dret a l'autodeterminaciò i el ple exercici de la seva sobirania. Per a Miguel Coll i Alentorn, en parlar de política nacionalista, el problema no és de separatisme o no separatisme, sinò de sobirania. Creu que no sent la histèria del separatisme, per() tampoc no cal sentir pànic del separatisme. Per a ell, el tot està en el fet que Catalunya pugui, en cada moment i en cada cas, obrar segons les seves altes conveniències, sense cap limitaciò a la seva voluntat, o sigui, exercint plenament la seva sobirania. I, per això, proclama que la millor soluciò per als problemes de llibertat col¿lectiva dels pobles ibèrics seria aquella que estigués informada pels principis d'independència política, interdependência econòmica i una fraternitat espiritual que es deriva de la consciência cristiana.

    The nationalist ideal of UDC [MIQUEL COLL I ALENTORN] This article is an extract of the conference given by Miguel Coll i Alentorn at the head offices of UDC, in 1934, on the nationalist ideal of Uniò Democràtica de Catalunya. Particularly outstanding is the defence of the necessary distinction between regionalism ¿coined by the conservative parties and currents, headed by the Lliga¿ and the nationalism defended by UDC. Coll i Alentorn regards them as antithetic and incompatible. On talking of the doctrine of Uniò Democràtica de Catalunya, he demands recognition of the national personality of Catalonia and, on the basis of the proclamation of the fact that Catalonia is a nation, an unavoidable consequence: the right to self-determination and the full exercise of its sovereignty. To Miguel Coll i Alentorn, when talking about nationalist policy, the problem is not one of separatism or no separatism, but sovereignty. He believes that he does not feel the hysteria of separatism, but that neither should one panic at separatism. For him, everything lies in the fact that Catalonia should be able, at all times and in all cases, act as it deems convenient, with no limitation imposed on its will, or in other words fully exercising its sovereignty. And that is why he claims that the best solution for the problems of collective freedom of the Iberian peoples would be one driven by the principles of political independence, economic interdependence and a spiritual fraternity derived from Christian awareness.
