Level V, the last excavated in the 1999, was continued during the current season to what we have called level XII where Calcolithic burials were uncovered at only a few centimetres of depth. The most significant finding this season was a series of post-holes for an animal enclosure. The features of the floor and its chemical composition led us to the conclusion that the cave, at least from the Calcolithic period, once having lost its function as a burial site, was used as an animal fold. This fact has influenced a change in the perception held to date regarding Los Husos I cave and its important role as a model for interiors with pottery during Prehistory in the Basque Country.
