La Pologne a l'heure americaine. Entre l'Europe et les Etats-Unis

    Among all the new members of the EU, Poland has been the most supportive of United States policies. The Iraq crisis has reinforced such a reductionist statement. The article first explains why Poland is so pro-American and then sets the limits of this attitude. Supporting American foreign policy, agreeing with the United States on a “politics of values”, does not necessarily mean agreeing with the economic and social “Anglo-Saxon” model. The time has come to give a more subtle image of Poland’s position, which is both pro-American and pro-European, and to raise a number of questions regarding the evolution of the country beyond the phase of transition it has experienced between the collapse of the Soviet system and its accession to the European Union.

    De tous les nouveaux membres de l’UE, la Pologne a apporté le soutien le plus explicite à la politique des États-Unis. La crise irakienne a conforté cette image réductrice. L’article examine d’abord les raisons de l’américanophilie polonaise, pour la relativiser dans un second temps : un soutien à la politique étrangère américaine, une convergence avec les États-Unis sur une « politique des valeurs » ne signifient pas adhésion au modèle économique et social « anglo-saxon ». Il est temps de donner une image plus nuancée de la position polonaise, américanophile et européenne, et de nous interroger sur l’évolution de ce pays au-delà de la phase de transition qu’elle a connue entre la chute du système soviétique et son intégration dans l’Union européenne.
