  • Resumen
    • The prehistoric Atxoste site contains a rich stratigraphic-cultural sequence that ranges from the end of the Upper Palaeolithic era to the Chalcolithic period, and also includes various mesolithic and neolithic phases. It is extremely rich in material culture and butchered animal remains, and charts a practically uninterrupted occupation which lasted for 10.000 years. This season, work has focused on the late glacial layers, and the moment at which the roof of the cave collapsed has been determined and a number of cultural complexities defined within the Magdalenian era.

Within the field of stoneworking, the most important finds are the points and back plates, alongside burins and scrapers. A number of fireplaces have also been found: the carbon remains collected will enable the partial reconstruction of the prevailing landscape at the end of the last European glaciation.
