Over the last year, which has seen the culmination of the first phase of the archaeological excavation of the camp site of the Battle of Andagoste, we have concluded the topographic and drawing works of the forty sondages carried out during previous seasons.
Likewise, and with the aim of furthering our knowledge of the defensive structures, we have excavated the north-east and south-east corners of the perimeter pit, analysing the morphology , typology and physical relations between the different defensive systems used at this settlement.
The materials found were much the same as in previous seasons, as regards both personal implements, weapons and coins. In light of this, we remain true to the interpretation proposed in this journal in 1998 regarding the origin of the site as a battle camp dating back to before the Cantabrian W ars between 40 and 30 BC.
