  • Glory and curse of modern individualism according to Louis Dumont [VERENA STOLCKE] Recently deceased, Louis Dumont has been one of the most interesting antropologists of the last 50 years. Although he is still relatively unknown in our country, his works merit much more attention not only by professional antropologists, but also by all those aiming to know the peculiarities of western civilization. In this article, Verena Stolcke presents the person and the work of Luis Dumont, emphasizing the most salient issues of his studies, such as individualism, the methodological contributions to anthropology and his interpretation of totalitarism.
