Resumen
A Place for us: Strong Democratic Civil Society [BENJAMIN R. BARBER] in this article the author exposes his concept of a strong democratic civil society which, in his view, is essential in order to attain real democratic and free nations. This strong democratic perspective on civil society distinguishes our civic lives both from our private lives as individual producers and consumers and from our public lives as voters and rights-claimants. In this sense, strong democratic civil society tries to find a place for «us», a civic space where we, as citizens, can be active, responsible, engaged members of groups and communities that, while having different values and conflicting interests, are devoted to arbitrating those differences by exploring common grounds, doing public work and pursuing common relations.
