  • Catalan cooperation with Occitania. On the path to a Europe of the regions? [KLAUS-JÜNGER NAGEL] The article describes existing inter-regional cooperation schemes and analyses their importance, but also deals with party and social contacts. Since both Catalan and Occitanian nationalists stress the importance of language for their collecti-ve identities, it is striking how this issue is undervalued in inter-regional cooperation (particularly in comparison with economic issues). The article highlights the role of cooperation with Occitania in Catalan foreign policy. Finally, Catalan-Occitanian cooperation is related to the role of regions in an integra-ting Europe, and to the likely consequences of European integration for national movements and parties in nations without states.
