La perspectiva europea de la distinció entre política i religió [ LLIBERT CUATRECASAS] Enfront de les concepcions de caire monista, la ideologia d'inspiració democratacristiana sosté que, en la persona, que és un tot espiritual obert a la vida social, hi conflueixen la capacitat de transcendència i la necessitat de realització en societat. Sobre aquestes premisses es construeix una societat personalista i comunitária que ha de procurar el bé comú. La civilització europea, la formulació més actual de la qual deu molt a l'acció del Conseil d'Europa, pero que arrela en el cristianisme i en el dret natural, es basa en l'existència d'un Estat democràtic i laic, que reconeix i protegeix la pluralitat religiosa, i que separa clarament els àmbits de la política i de la religió. El fet que s'afegeixi, en el marc d'Europa, el debat nacional comporta que l'objectiu de l'amistat cívica ¿que es palesa políticament mitjançant la recerca del consens¿ s'hagi d'assolir en contextos socials encara molt més diversos i plurals. La presència pública de la religiò s'haurà de centrar precisament en això: promoure una amistat cívica que permeti la cohesiò social i la integraciò lliure deis ciutadans en els valors laics fonamentals del país de residència.

The European perspective of the distinction between politics and religion [ LLIBERT CUATRECASAS] As opposed to Monistic conceptions, the ideology of Christian Democracy holds that the person, who is a spiritual whole open to social life, is a convergence of the capacity of transcendence and the need for self-fulfilment in society. These premises serve to build a personalistic and community society that must pursue the common good. European civilisation, whose current formulation draws greatly from the action of the Council of Europe, but which has its roots in Christianity and in natural law, is based on the existence of a democratic and lay State that acknowledges and protects religious plurality, and which clearly separates the spheres of politics and religion. The existence of the national debate in Europe means that the objective of civic friendship ¿embodied politically by the search for consensus¿ must be brought about in what are still very different and plural social contexts. The public presence of religion must focus precisely on this: promoting a civil friendship that permits social cohesion and the free integration of citizens in the basic lay values of the country of residence.
