  • Resumen
    • In this paper, we argue that grammar and spelling checkers are key technologies for the basis of a new generation of controlled languages tools for French. A parser that can take into account the underlying structure of a whole sentence allows for more accurate control over the vocabulary and the syntactic strucutres used in a document. Such a control can only lead to an increased readability and make translation easier. The use of more powerful chekers offers new possibilities to constrain, to control or to help writers in their daily task. The functions of grammar checkers provide the mechanism for terminology control, for the replacement of complete syntatic structures and, to some extent, the ability to paraphrase. In this paper, we propose techniques in order to limit over-correction from these checkers and to obtain, in the worst scenario, a performance identical to the one offered by first generation tools. The suggested approach is implemented in a toolbox called SIMPLUS built around the core engine of the Correcteur 101.
