  • Emilio Fernández’ films are not the first to present an indigenous theme, but they are the films that most clearly illustrate the indigenous theory that was developing in Mexico in the 1930s. What is significant is the rejection of indigenous icons, culture, society, and even existence in the representation of the Indian characters.
