  • In reference to the centenary of the birth of Joan B, Roca i Caball [FERRAN CAMPS /JOAQUIM MONCLÚS] On April the 3rd of 1998 the centenary of the birth of Joan Baptista Roca i Caball, one of the founders of Unió Democràtica de Catalunya, was celebrated. The autors of this article are also authors of the biography Joan Baptista Roca i Caball (1898-1976). Impulsor de la Pau civil, Edicions Proa, Barcelona, 1998. This article does not intend to summarize the book, but to do some reflections about this person's life and about his attitudes towards some events which were of a great significance for the history of UDC and also for the our country's history- TO make it more understandable and in order to find a place for this person in the history this article encloses an abstract of his biography. r obliged to exist clandestinely Finally, after seeing his party no longe and realising that his efforts had not been in vain, Joan Baptista Roca i Caball died on August the 23rd of 1976 at the age of seventy-eight. Amongst the many memories Mr MIquel Coll i Alentorn quoted about Roca i Caball, in front of his grave, when he was praising the figure of his colleague and friend, he said: <>
