Resumen de ¿Y existe pues la neurociencia cognitiva?

Se han identificado tres posturas diferenciadas en los comentarios a los puntos de vista de Escera (2004) en su artículo diana sobre la Aproximación histórica y conceptual a la Neurociencia Cognitiva, a saber, la neurológica, la cognitivista y la neurocognitiva. La cuestión crítica que se está debatiendo es de si de la interacción entre el cerebro y la cognición emergen niveles de análisis, propiedades y leyes distintos, que no pueden ser reducidos para su explicación a ninguno de los niveles que la originan. El autor concluye que si las funciones cognitivas no son más que funciones del cerebro, aquéllas deben explicarse por las leyes de éste, y entonces no hay más Neurociencia Cognitiva que la Neurociencia.

Three different points of view have been identified among the comments to Escera's (2004) target paper Aproximación histórica y conceptual a la Neurociencia Cognitiva. These can be referred as the neurological, the cognitive, and the neurocognitive points of view. The critical issue under debate is whether different levels of analysis, properties and laws emerge from the interaction between brain and cognition, which can not be reduced for explanation to neither of their composing parts. The author concludes that, if cognitive functions are nothing but brain functions, then brain laws must explain them, and therefore there is no more Cognitive Neuroscience than Neuroscience.
