    • Achievement of High-Resolution Earth Observation missions from high orbit requires the use of a new type of instrument compatible with launcher shroud capacities. Optical Aperture Synthesis (OAS), or the multi-pupil instrument, is seen as a good candidate, and has been studied by Alcatel Alenia Space research for several years. The expertise developed in this field, unique in Europe, has resulted in patent applications and the proposal of new instrument concepts enabling the high-resolution or variable field and resolution capacities favored by a flexible, multi-instrument concept. Disruptive technologies have been identified, and their development will be mandatory to deploy, control and stabilize these new instruments, which may be launched within 15-20 years.
