Ante el continuo incremento de la competencia entre destinos turísticos, se hace necesario profundizar en el análisis de los factores explicativos de la competitividad de los mismos. Para ayudar a conseguir este propósito en el presente artículo se hace una revisión de la teoría de la competitividad internacional de los destinos turísticos con enfoque macroeconómico basada en el concepto de ventaja comparativa. Ello nos va a permitir detectar tanto sus virtudes como limitaciones a la hora de analizar la competencia actual entre destinos. Por otro lado, también se hace un repaso bibliográfico por las principales causas que han llevado a la elaboración de una nueva teoría de la competitividad de los destinos turísticos con enfoque estratégico basada en el concepto de ventaja competitiva.

Given the continuos increase in the competition among tourist destinations, it is neces-sary to study in greater depth the analysis of the explanatory factors of the competitiveness among themselves. In order to help to achieve this aim, there is a revision in this article of the theory of the international competitiveness of the tourist destinations with macroecono-mic viewpoint based on the concept of comparative advantage. This will allow us to detect its virtues as well as its limitations at the time of analysing the current competition among destinies. On the other hand, there is also a bibliographic revision of the main reasons tht kead to the drawing up of a new theory of the competitiveness of the tourist destinations with strategic viewpoint based on the concept of competitive advantage.
