Amor y enamoramiento en personas con discapacidad intelectual: un campo por explorar

    El amor es considerado uno de los fenómenos interpersonales más importantes, relacionándose además con la salud, la felicidad y el bienestar general. Sin embargo, el acercamiento científico al amor como objeto de estudio no se ha ampliado a las personas con discapacidad intelectual, aun cuando sí se estén desarrollando programas y actuaciones centradas en la educación afectivo-sexual.

    En este estudio, se pretende iniciar este camino (aún desconocido), aplicando la conocida Escala Triangular de Sternberg a una muestra de personas con discapacidad intelectual.

    Esta escala se basa en la Teoría Triangular de Sternberg, la cual establece tres componentes principales del amor: Intimidad, Pasión y Compromiso.

    Tras adaptar el instrumento (simplificando la redacción, convirtiendo el formato en entrevista), se aplicó a 75 personas con discapacidad intelectual de Valladolid, obteniéndose principalmente los siguientes resultados: (a) se obtienen puntuaciones elevadas en todos los componentes; (b) se encuentran diferencias significativas en función de la edad, la ubicación institucional y el hecho de tener o no pareja en el momento del estudio, pero no en función del sexo ni del nivel de funcionamiento; (c) la Escala Triangular presenta un elevado coeficiente de fiabilidad alfa y su estructura factorial es coherente con la propuesta por Sternberg.

    Love is considered one of the most important interpersonal phenomena, and it is also linked with health, happiness and general well-being. However, scientific approach to love as study subject doesn't include yet people with intellectual disabilities, even though when there are affective-sexual educational programmes that are being developed.

    In this study, we try to begin this path (still unknown), applying the well-known Sternberg's Triangular Scale with a sample of people with intellectual disabilities. This scale is based in the Sternberg's Triangular Theory of Love, which proposes three principal components of love: Intimacy, Passion and Commitment.

    After adapting the instrument (the redaction was simplified, the format was converted to be applied by interview), we applied it to 75 persons with intellectual disability from Valladolid, and the following principal outcomes were obtained: (a) high scores are found in all the components; (b) significant differences attending to age, institutional place and the fact of having or not a couple in the moment of the study were found, but not attending to gender or level of functioning; (c) The Triangular Scale shows a high reliability Alpha Coefficient and its factorial structure is coherent with Sternberg's one
