Resumen de Ideología política, valores culturales y miedo a la muerte: Su impacto después de los atentados del 11 de Marzo

  En el contexto de los atentados del 11-M, evaluamos las asociaciones entre la ideología política (izquierda y derecha) y los valores de Schwartz; las creencias de Janoff-Bulman; la identificación y valoración de españoles y árabes; los tipos de afrontamiento y conductas de evitación frente a actos de violencia colectiva, y la saliencia de la mortalidad. Nuestros resultados sugieren que la ideología de derecha presenta dos dimensiones, la primera influida por los valores de Seguridad, Conformidad y Tradición, es entendida en términos del autoritarismo de derecha y se asocia positivamente al miedo a la muerte, a afrontamientos de tipo altruista, a la evitación de situaciones amenazantes (i.e. exogrupo árabe) y a la negación de lo sucedido; La segunda dimensión está influida por el valor del Poder y la asociamos concep­tualmente a la Orientación de Dominancia Social. Por otra parte, la ideología de izquier­da se vio influida por el valor de Benevolencia y se asoció a manifestaciones o rituales políticos como estrategia de afrontamiento.

  In the context of the March Eleventh bombing, we examined associations among political option of participants and Schwartz¿s Values; Janoff-Bulman¿s Beliefs; Identification with and evaluation of Spaniards and Arabs; Coping Strategies and Avoidance Behaviours related with collective violence situations; and Mortality salience. Our results suggest that right-wing ideology shows two dimensions, the first one is influenced by values of Security, Conformity and Tradition and is defined in terms of the right wing authoritarianism and it is positive associated to fear to death, altruistic coping ), avoiding threatening situations (i.e. outgroup Arabs), and with the denial of what have occurred. The second one is related to the value of Power and it is conceptually associated with the Social Dominance Orientation theory. Meanwhile people with left-wing ideology, influenced by a prevalence of the Benevolence value, tend to express themselves through manifestations or political rituals as mainstreams coping.
