Resumen de Iglesia Católica y gobierno venezolano en la diatriba pública: estrategias discursivas de poder, autodefensa y ataque

  Contextualizado en la actual crisis política venezolana, en este artículo se examinan las estrategias discursivas empleadas por los hablantes en los intercambios verbales que se desarrollaron entre la Iglesia Católica y el Poder Ejecutivo venezolanos durante el año 1999. Su desarrollo se fundamenta en la crónica narrativa como estrategia retórica y en el Análisis Crítico del Discurso (ACD) como herramienta teórico-metodológica. Del análisis de discursos oficiales, artículos de opinión y reportes de prensa publicados ese año en el diario El Nacional, de Caracas, Venezuela, se obtuvo que mientras la Jerarquía Eclesiástica centró su acción lingüística en la autodefensa y en la deslegitimación del Presidente Hugo Chávez y su proceso; éste, desde el ejercicio del poder, fundamentó su discurso en la restauración del orden social y en la deslegitimación de la Iglesia Católica como institución que asumió funciones de naturaleza política. Se observó también que en los intentos que cada hablante lleva a cabo para descalificar al oponente y coartar sus posibilidades de expresión e influencia, se escenifica una tenaz lucha por el control hegemónico de la palabra pública en beneficio de sus propias creencias y relaciones de poder.

  Within the context of the current Venezuelan crisis, this article aims to examine the discursive strategies used by speakers in verbal exchanges carried out by the Catholic Church and the Venezuelan Executive Power during 1999. The article is based on the use of the narrative chronicle as a rhetorical strategy and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as theoretical-methodological tool. From the analysis made to official discourses, opinion articles and press reports published that year in Venezuelan newspapers like El Nacional, it could be seen that while the Catholic Ecclesiastical Hierarchy centered its linguistic action on self-defense and deslegitimation of President Hugo Chávez and his political process; Chávez, using all his power, based his discourse in the restoration of the social order and deslegitimation of the Catholic Church as an institution that had assumed political functions. It was also observed that whenever each speaker tried to disqualify the opponent and to hinder the respective possibility of expression and influence, a tenacious fight took place in order to maintain preeminent control of the public word, for the sake of their own beliefs and power relationships.
