Por medio del análisis de la parodia Los amantes de Chinchón, de Juan Martínez Villergas, se quiere mostrar el importante esfuerzo realizado por este dramaturgo para poner freno a los excesos del drama romántico español de la segunda mitad del XIX. De modo especial, se pone de relieve la pugna existente en la época entre el modelo convencional y la fórmula acuñada por Villergas: la parodia.

Through the analysis of the Spanish writer Juan Martínez Villergas’ parody text Los amantes de Chinchón this paper reveals how important was Villergas’ purpose just in order to put the brake on the exaggerations of the Romantic Spanish drama. A special attention is given to the struggle between the standard formula of Spanish theatre in the nineteens and the original formula of parody set up by Villergas.
