    El sector económico que mayor ingresos reporta a la comunidad canaria es el turismo; sin embargo, parece claro que el modelo existente, de sol y playa, debe diversificar sus recursos, incluyendo las diferentes ofertas culturales que nuestras islas ofrecen. En este sentido, el Patrimonio Histórico y más concretamente el Patrimonio Arqueológico, desde un enfoque acertado puede ayudar a ello. En Canarias se está comenzando a potenciar el patrimonio arqueológico ya como un recurso valioso per se, ya como un instrumento de atracción turística más. Creemos, pues, necesario una reflexión, sobre las formas de valoración y puesta en uso de estos yacimientos a la luz de las demandas sociales y económicas, encuadrando éstas en la reciente Ley de Patrimonio Histórico Canario.

    Tourism is the economic field which represents the highest incomes to the Canaries. Nonetheless, it seems obvious that the current model, based on sun and beach, must be diversified, including the different cultural range of offers. According to this, Heritage, and more specifically Archaelogical Heritage can be helpful. Archaelogical Heritage is starting to be fostered not only as valuable resource in itself, but also as a tourist attraction tool. In our opinion, a reflection on the ways of evaluation and put into use of these sites is urgently needed, bearing in mind the recent Canarian Heritage Law.
