  • There is a difFcrence between presenting traditional villages and traditional communities. Opcn air museums can display relies of traditional villages by transferring buildings and interiors, or by coUecting tools etc. But mostly it is thc aim of open air museums not only to show relies, but to present a former way of life. In this arricie I will not deal with the way we represent the material culture but with the question of how to represent traditional communities.

    To be clear: the question is not how the farmhouses looked but how the life of the people living in tradi tional communities was.
