    Este artículo muestra los problemas que afectan a los profesores universitarios que pueden ser fuente de malestar y de estrés. En la primera parte, se revisan las causas principales que producen el estado de estrés en el profesor, destacando aquéllas que están relacionadas con las condiciones en las cuales éste realiza sus tareas y los estresores asociados a su rol. Igualmente, se consideran las variables sociodemográficas, sociales y personales como mediadoras de la manera de percibir las situaciones estresantes y la forma de afrontarlas. En la segunda parte, se explica cómo se manifiesta el estrés a través de las respuestas fisiológicas, psicológicas y conductuales así como las consecuencias que conlleva este trastorno. Por último, se comentan algunas estrategias de afrontamiento para combatir el estrés en el profesor universitario y se ofrecen unas pautas específicas para prevenirlo.

    This paper shows the problems that affect the unibersity teachers due to the educational institution and the tasks that teachers must complete in it. First, we emphasize stress causing problems due to the conditions of the environment in which the professor accomplishes his tasks. We also consider that socialdemographic, personal and social variables as mediators in percieving the stress situations and the way to handle them. Second, we explain how stress expresses itself through physical, psychological and behavioral manifestations, as well as the consequences that are due to this disorder. Finally, we comment on some strategies to help combat stress for the university teachers, and we give some guidelines to help prevent stress.
