The most effective way to generate electricity out of biomass is the gasification and the use of the gas in a gas engine. The conversion of the organic carbon with the gasification of biomass is higher than 95%. Already in 1988 the company "Babcock & Wilcox Volund Aps" decided to take an active part in development of gasifiers in order to create a gasification principle with high possibilities. In the beginning of year 2000 two Jenbacher gas engine modules JMS 320 GS-S. L were installed and the district heating plant was converted into a CHP plant. The Harboore plant is therefore helping to offset the greenhouse effect by producing heat and electricity with only a limited use of fossil fuels. Based on substitution of coal, the plant's annual heat output saves about 6,700 tonnes / year of CO2
