An analysis of nearly 100 oppida with known area in "Celtic" Iberia has provided some very interesting results about its urban settlement and socio-political structure. The average area is about 20 Ha, but only 4 are bigger than 50 Ha; 14 are between 50 and 25 Ha; more than 50%, between 25 and 10 Ha; 24, from 10 to 5 Ha and only a few are less than 5 Ha. This analysis allows to distinguish four cultural areas, related with different ethnics groups: 1, the southern and eastern border of the Meseta occupied by "Iberian" peoples, as Oretani and Olcades; 2, the Meseta plains where the oppida of the Carpetani and Vaccei were as large as 100 Ha; 3, northern Hispania, where lived Galaici, Astures, Cantabri, Vascones, etc., whose oppida were smaller and of a later age; 4, the mountain areas, as the Pyrenees, etc., which had no oppida structure in Antiquity.
