  • The purpose ofthe present study in to provide a new interpretation ofTh. I, 138, 3. In this passage, the historian describes the personal qualities of Themistokles, one of the most important and controversial leaders in the Medical Wars. The analysis of zyesis meletê and, specially, aytoschediáziy, provides information on the improvised oratory that took place in Athens before the sophistic influence.
