This article is about several ways of translating one problematic textual fragment in Nahuatl language from the Florentine Codex. From this little fragment, the problems of textuality, literality, fidelity, and figurative meaning in the translation arise in the work of Fray Bernardino de Sahagún. Moreover, different later translations of this Nahuatl text into Spanish and English show the trouble of resolving the complexity of the Nahuatl idioms. Therefore, a correct translation does not require only both lexical and syntactic analysis but also a knowledge of both historical and cultural context. In this case, a linguistic translation means a cross-cultural translation. In relation to that matter, the information that is displayed in this text is very important to know the Nahua cultural conception of the proffesional socialization and learning processes of the craftsmanship.
