La religión de arena: una revisión de la idolatría guanche a la luz de las fuentes históricas

    Este artículo revisa la «idolatría guanche», concebida como materialización de las creencias de los antiguos habitantes de Tenerife en objetos de reducido tamaño y diversas formas. En este sentido, expone y analiza las hipótesis que la investigación ha elaborado hasta el momento partiendo del Guatimac, figurilla única en Tenerife que se constituye en la «pieza clave», en la prueba material que sustenta la existencia de «ídolos» en la historia antigua de la isla. Así, se cuestiona el uso que la investigación ha hecho de las fuentes históricas y se plantean los límites que la información fiable impone a la ciencia, para, finalmente, concluir la imposibilidad de hablar de «idolatría guanche», en el sentido que tradicionalmente se le ha dado

    This article revises the «idolatry guanche», conceived as materialization of the beliefs of the old inhabitants from Tenerife in objects of reduced size and diverse forms. In this sense, it exposes and it analyzes the hypotheses that the investigation has elaborated until the moment leaving of the Guatimac, unique statuette in Tenerife that is constituted in the «key piece», in the material test that sustains the existence of «idols» in the old history of the Island. Thus, the use is questioned that the investigation has done of the historical sources and the limits consider that the trustworthy information imposes to science, for, finally, to conclude the impossibility to speak of «idolatry guanche», in the sense that traditionally has occurred him.
