  • Resumen
    • As yet, there has been no comprehensive study of plants and trees as reflected in the texts from Ugarit. The outline of the present survey is as follows: after a short review of previous studies on this topic and a note on the significance of any findings, comes a discussion of the sources and of some of the problems involved. This is followed by an annotated list of trees and timber, fruit, plants, flowers and herbs and a list of terms in syllabic spelling only. Next come an appraisal of some disputed words, an explanation for an obscure word and a list of incorrectly identified terms. Three sets of texts are then examined: four medical texts, three difficult texts and the text relating to the composite bow. Finally come tables and brief conclusion. New meanings are proposed for over 60 Ugaritic words including uhl, alz, irab, arbn, urn, arspy, iryn, itg, bbt, bnn, gml, grgr, hrr, hdl, hlp, hlpn, kbl, kdkdy, kdt, klt, knkt, ksyn, kst, ktkt, ktmn, ktn, ktkn, ktn, ktrn, ldn, irn, mhr, mrnn, nght, plgy, plgn, plsn, ppn, sbd, sbl, shr(n), snb, sst, snd, sbry, smt, tbq, tlgn, tmy(n), tran, trbnn, trdn, tt, tbln, tnt, trdn, tty(n), yman, trt, zq, zrn, and also harmanu.
