    Mt. Triglav, a major natural site in Slovenia, has benefited since the end of the eighteenth century from a strong identification of its inhabitants with their mountain space. However, the impetus to promote the historic value of the site came from the outside, whereas this is at the origin of a recurring conflict. The native reappropriation occurred late through an emphasis on the rural and on sports facilities. But with a weak desire to participate in local development. Since 1991, the year of Slovenia’s independence, marketing campaigns have characterized the site and merchandising interests have come to dominate its territorial organization. Mountain identity has become dualistic, caught between the local peasantry and the new sporting crowd, each of which has its seasonal rhythms.

    Le Mont Triglav, site naturel majeur slovène profite depuis la fin du xviiie siècle d’une très forte identification des habitants à leur espace montagnard. Pourtant, la valorisation historique du site fut un processus d’impulsion principalement exogène à l’origine d’une conflictualité récurrente. La réappropriation autochtone s’est effectuée tardivement par l’intermédiaire de la néo-ruralité et des pratiques sportives, mais avec une faible volonté de participer au développement local. Depuis 1991, date de l’indépendance de la Slovénie, le grand site est marqué par les opérations marketing. La forme marchande d’organisation territoriale domine. L’identité montagnarde devient duale entre paysannerie locale et nouveaux sportifs et la pratique de l’espace adopte un rythme saisonnier.
