La novela Ifigenia, de la narradora venezolana Teresa de la Parra (1889-1936), se construye a partir de la confesión de su protagonista: María Eugenia Alonso. La intimidad femenina se revela en la primera persona del diario y la epístola, en una época donde se producen los choques entre la tradición y una modernidad incipiente. La protagonista revela las angustias y la irreverencia de una mujer en busca de su independencia. Se explora el papel de la belleza y la moda dentro de este contexto, el discurso de la individualidad que quiere imponerse y termina cercenada ante las presiones familiares, y la noción de sacrificio que le da nombre a esta novela.
The novel Ifigenia, by the Venezuelan author Teresa de la Parra (1889-1936), is built from the confession of its main character: María Eugenia Alonso. The feminine privacy is revealed in the first person of the diary and the epistle, in a time of shocks between tradition and a budding modernity. The main character reveals the anguishes and the irreverence of a woman in search of her independence. The role of beauty and fashion is explored inside this context, as well as the discourse of the individuality that wants to be imposed - but ends due to family pressures -, and the notion of sacrifice that gives name to this novel.
