  • In his critique of The Loves of Carmen (Raoul Walsh 1927) in Cinelandia, a Hollywood fan magazine written in Spanish for Hispanic readers, Agustín Aragón Jr. gives his personal view on the myth of Carmen. He discusses the novel, the opera, and earlier film adaptations. The journalist argues that the film contains stereotypical imagery, errors and incongruencies, affirming that Americans in actual fact do not take seriously the authenticity of their films they so earnestly boast about, and which is symptomatic of a lack of interest in Hispanic culture
