    Rabindranath Tagore creó la escuela nueva de «Shantiniketan» el día 22 de diciembre de 1901, cerca de Bolpur en Bengala Occidental (India). Tagore fue un educador y precursor de la nueva educación, también fue un gran escritor e incluso ganó el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1913. Sin embargo, fuera de la India, muy poca gente sabe de su faceta de educador. En este artículo se presenta con detalle cómo Tagore creó esta escuela y qué métodos usó: los principios educativo-didácticos y los principios activos y organizativos.

    Rabindranath Tagore established the new school of "Shantiniketan" on 22 December 1901, near Bolpur in West Bengal (India). Tagore was an educator and forerunner of the new education; he was also a great writer and even won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. However, outside India, very few people know about his role as an educator. This article presents in detail how Tagore created this school and what methods he used: the educational-didactic principles and the active and organizational principles.
