Los gitanos estuvieron en la isla, y allí siguen hoy en día. Son descendientes de gitanos nómadas, hombres y mujeres trabajadores, amantes de la familia, y sobre todo, gente que anteponen su honor y fidelidad a los suyos por encima de cualquier otra cosa. La historia de amor entre Parizza y Rogelio, que más bien parece sacada de la época medieval en lugar de un suceso real ocurrido el siglo pasado con toques tropicales, sirve para ilustrar la historia de los gitanos que partieron hacia Cuba en busca de fortuna y mejor vida, y para remarcar, si cabe, que los gitanos no son ni delincuentes ni ladrones, sino que se ganan el pan como buenamente pueden.
Los recuerdos del periodista cubano Luis Sexto acerca de la presencia de un campamento gitano por allá 1950, aún inundan en su memoria. Tras la visualización de esa vasta multitud, Luis nunca más topó con los gitanos en Cuba, tal vez por su sentido de provisionalidad y libertad.

Gipsies settled in the isle, and still some of them remain there. They are descendants of nomadic Gipsies, men and women, all hard-workers, devoted to their families, and most of all, people who give preference to their honour and faith to their loved ones before anything else in life. The love between the two lovers, Parizza and Rogelio, and whose story seems to be taken from medieval times instead of being a real happening taken place last century, is scented with a tropical touch. It is a kind story to illustrate the life of the gispsies who headed to Cuba in search of fortune, and to underline that they are not criminals nor thiefs, but they willingly try to earn their living.
The memories of the Cuban journalist Luis Sexto of his first sight of a Gipsy camp around 1950, still invade his mind. After experiencing the sight of this huge Gipsy crowd, Luis never came across to any Gipsy in Cuba, maybe due to their sense of provisional nature and freedom.
