ABSTRACT The Nogent Institute, founded by Etienne Wolff in 1955, was dedicated to the study of the avian model. The quail-chick chimera marking system, devised in 1969, gave a new impetus to the analysis of cell migrations and interactions in the developing nervous, immune and hematopoietic systems. These studies, still very active, have been extended by various groups the world over.
