  Desde finales del siglo XVIII, el problema negro sigue siendo el tema mayor de las ciencias sociales en Cuba cada vez que se plantea la cuestión de la identidad nacional. De modo que los enfoques sociológicos de Arango, sociopolíticos de José Martí y antropológicos de Fernando Ortiz han determinado la estética de Nicolás Guillén y de Gastón Baquero en lo que se podría llamar una poética de la identidad. = For the author, the view of the negro problem by the social scientists in Cuba has made a strong influence in the poetry of Nicolás Guillén and Gastón Baquero.
