La negació i la concordança negativa en català antic

    En català antic la conjunció ni i els quantificadors negatius apareixen reforçats per la negació en les oracions negatives amb independència de la posició que ocupen en l¿oració. Aquest fenomen sintàctic, conegut com a concordança negativa, afecta tant els mots que provenen de mots negatius llatins (ne o ni, null) com aquells que assoleixen un valor negatiu en llatí tardà o romànic primitiu (res, jamés, mai, etc.). La concordança negativa, tanmateix, no es manté de manera regular al llarg de l¿edat mitjana i ja en textos medievals es pot rastrejar l¿elisió del no en contextos en què aquests mots ocupen una posició preverbal. El procés d¿afebliment de la concordança, a més, no es produeix de manera homogènia en tots els casos i, concretament, s¿inicia amb els mots que ocupen les posicions oracionals més perifèriques (amb el nexe oracional ni i, més tard, amb les expressions temporals negatives).

    In Old Catalan, the conjunction ni and negative quantifiers are reinforced by negation in negative sentences irrespective of the position that they occupy. This syntactic phenomenon, known as «negative agreement», affects both words that were negative elements in Latin (ne or ni, null) and words which acquired a negative meaning in Late Latin or Proto-Romance (res, jamés, mai, etc.). Nevertheless, negative agreement is not a regular feature throughout the Middle Ages, and in medieval texts it is possible to find instances of the elision of no when these adverbs are preverbal. Moreover, gradual loss of agreement does not occur homogeneously, but begins with words that are more peripheral in the sentence (first, ni, and later time adverbials).
