Resumen de Dos notas a Herodas (1.1 y 3.11)

Luis Alfonso Llera Fueyo

  • In 1.1 the verb άράσσει, with its normal sense of «violent knocking», is interpreted not as a sign of άγροικία in Gyllis but as an allusion to her more insistent and violent knockings caused by her impatience at the lack of response to her first knock. The verb also emphasizes ironically the Thracian slave's idleness.

In 3.11, P's reading λήξειε, with its proper sense «scream», «utter aloud», is defended against the correction λέξειε, as it complies well with the character of Kottalos depicted in the poem as a rebellious boy.
