Fiesta de Carnaval, música y poder: el refinamiento de las comparsas gaditanas en la época contemporánea

    En este articulo nos acercamos al Carnaval ya las agrupaciones musicales asumiendo esta práctica festiva como un sistema de imágenes y textos, como tuno inmensa representación cultural, un escenario complejo y en cambio que, como la cultura que encarno y expreso, produce significados, actitudes y valores. Por eso analizamos la interacción de grupos en la fiesta, lugar de prácticas políticas y sociales donde individuos y grupos negocian, luchan por su lugar en la sociedad. En el Carnaval de Cádiz, desde las últimas décadas del siglo XIX y las tres primeras del XX, podemos observar un proceso de adecentamiento de la fiesta y de refinamiento de las agrupaciones musicales. A partir de la denominación genérica de comparsas este refinamiento hará que las agrupaciones vayan diferenciándose en coros, comparsas, murgas y chirigotas. Este proceso afectará al mismo tiempo o lo música y lo letra de las coplas, loo tipos representados, el disfraz, y a la comercialización y la profesionalización de las agrupaciones.

    This article concerns Carnivals and musical groups assuming this festive practice as a system of images and texts, as an immense cultural representation and as a complex scenography, that, nevertheless, as the culture it embodies and expresses, produces meaning, attitudes and values. For that reason we have analyzed the interplay among different groups during the festivities, where political and social models are realized and where individuals and groups negotiate and struggle to find their place in society. From the last decades of the XIX century and the first thirty years of the XX century one can observe a process of respectability and refinement of the musicians participating in the festivities during the Cádiz Carnival. Based on their overall definition as groups, the said refinement has led the different groupings to be classified as singing groups, masquerades, street musicians and comics. This process affected the music and the text of the couplets, the personages represented, the disguises and the commercial and professional aspects pertaining to the different groups.
