Le concept de marge, riche mais flou, mérite d'être explicité car il est susceptible d'alimenter une réflexion féconde. Conçue comme un élément en disfonctionnement du système territorial, la marge est un vrai objet géographique et a une place particulière dans l'organisation spatio-temporelle dans laquelle nous la repérons. Sa dynamique la rend plus ou moins évidente à l'observation, plus ou moins réelle, mais capter sa réalité, comprendre sa place et son rôle peut permettre de pénétrer au c'ur de l'analyse territoriale.

In the context of territorial development the concept of a margin is both full of interest yet ill-defined ; however, this idea merits clarification for it is capable of provoking fruitful discussion. The margin is considered as a mal-functioning element in a territorial system ; it has a clearly defined geographical character and has a special place in the spatial-temporal system in which we live.
