  • Resumen
    • Concentrations of trace elements in lichens (Hypogymnia physodes, Cladina stellaris) and sphagnum mosses in northern West Siberia were determined at sampling sites in different geographical locations and subject to different types and extent of anthropogenic pollution sources, including sites of exploratory drilling. The authors tested species differences in trace-element accumulation in lichens, and determined these to be more important than sampling location relative to the pollution source. Their analysis of spatial trends reveals a latitudinal gradient in heavy metal deposition associated with differences in industrial impact in polar and temperate latitudes.
