In recent biblical studies, Bakhtin’s dialogical approach has offered an interpretive framework for examining the use of the OT in the NT. From this perspective, the present study analyzes John 19:36 and its relationship to Exod 12:46c, Num 9:12b, and Ps 34:21 (Ps 33:21 [LXX]), considering their various versions. By integrating Old Testament passages into a single statement, the Johannine structure places literalness in the background and gives precedence to the historical event. John 19:36 participates in a broader dialogical field in which Jewish and Christian readings of the texts involved interact. The Paschal event of early Christianity and the reconfiguration of Judaism following the crisis of 70 A.D. constitute key factors in the interpretation and transmission of the biblical tradition.
