Valencia, España
This study describes how pitch range and speech tempo vary with sex, age, and education in spontaneous Spanish from Valencia. Using a balanced 180-speaker subset of PRESEEA-Valencia and an automatic pipeline (WhisperX, Montreal Forced Aligner, Praat/Parselmouth), we measure pitch range and articulation rate (tempo excluding pauses) at the intonational-phrase level and speech rate (tempo including pauses) at the turn level. Generalized linear mixed models indicate that pitch range is wider in women and increases with age; articulation rate is flat across social groups and associated with phrase length; and turn-level speech rate is lower in older and less-educated speakers, an effect carried mainly by longer pauses and, for age, also by a small slowing of articulation. The study supplies a quantitative baseline for an under-described variety and an open, reproducible workflow reusable across PRESEEA corpora.
