OBJECTIVE: To identify the training needs of micro-producers in the food sector of Cochabamba in order to determine priority areas for capacity building that can strengthen their competitiveness. The study was guided by the research question: ¿What training needs do food-sector micro-producers exhibit that influence the strengthening of their competitiveness? METHODS: A cross-sectional descriptive study (with exploratory components) was conducted through the application of di-agnostic and prioritization surveys to a convenience sample of 53 micro-producers participating in training workshops. The constructs were operationalized as follows: training needs, defined as self-reported gaps between current knowledge and that required for effective business performance; and competitiveness, understood as the perceived capacity to improve processes, market positioning, and business growth. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to examine patterns in knowledge levels, perceptions, and training priorities. RESULTS: Micro-producers reported sig-nificant training gaps in technical, commercial, and financial areas. The most highly valued training topics were finance, digital marketing, sales, and production pro-cesses, while priorities for business growth centered mainly on digital marketing and finance. Access to training opportunities was limited, as most participants did not receive advisory or training services despite expressing interest in doing so. Specific needs were identified in competitor analysis, digital content creation, basic finan-cial control, and sales techniques. CONCLUSION: The findings make it possible to identify the training needs that affect competitiveness within the sector, highlighting critical areas for capacity development and emphasizing the need to implement contextualized training programs aligned with the real demands of food-sector mi-cro-producers in Cochabamba.
