This concluding chapter draws together the work across the entire book to outline how the adoption of an ecological lens is a genuine opportunity to approach entrepreneurship research in a new way. It draws attention to the region, as more than a set of contextual conditions for entrepreneurship, but as the reason to question, understand, and develop the dynamic entrepreneurial function in the service of socioeconomic communities. The differences in underpinning assumptions between ecology and economics are surfaced and the case for regional entrepreneurial ecosystem (REE) research to act as a bridge between them is argued. To advance REE research, a four-step analytical framework is offered to guide researchers towards increasing rigour in the analysis and appreciation of the adaptive capacities of socioeconomic environments. The chapter closes out the book by offering five major areas of future development for REE research.
