  • The flora and the fauna of the islands presents notable particularities. The greater part of these peculiarities are not at today sufficiently and satisfactory explained. Many aspects, as endemism, speciation, nanism, melanism, relictism, etc., are examples of this question. In the whole, these phenomena present the highest interest in the field of the insularity.

    The insular florae and faunae are precious elements from the ecological, genetic, evolutionary, historical and biogeographical points of view. In this paper some of these aspects are exposed and discussed.
