  • Resumen
    • The aim of this chapter is to outline the theoretical background, structure of the book, and methodological approaches that frame contributions to this volume. The book provides insights on challenges through which families have navigated in the 21st century in Europe, strategies they mobilize, and family policy measures that support or constrain them. The chapters are organized around three main aspects: challenges, strategies, and family policy measures in the contexts of COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, balancing working and family lives, and persistent economic, social inequalities, and balancing working and family lives. The chapter first situates the contributions in the theoretical debates. It then provides an overview of empirical contributions and the methodological approaches that underpin the chapters, structured around the three parts of the book.
