In recent years, in the Hispanic context, literary manifestations that explore the animal question have proliferated, problematizing the anthropocentric perspectives that guide our conceptualization of the world. This work analyzes El libro mediterráneo de los muertos (2023), by María Ángeles Pérez López (1967). Specifically, based on posthumanist perspective, biopoetic criticism, feminist theory and on the carnophallogocentric condition of human language, the article raises an approach to the creative mechanisms used by the book to rethink the relationship with the living. In this way, the article observes how the book, in its metapoetic and interartistic construction (with special attention to the dialogue with Perro semihundido, by Francisco de Goya), tries to reveal, through its own language, the intrinsic violence of human language, which is constituted from the denial of animality and materiality of itself and the others of humanist discourse. This denunciation of human language is simultaneously followed by an exploration of new ways of representing the non-human otherness. For this purpose, poetic language is conceived, through the investigation into its materiality, as part of the becoming of the living, which structures the lyrical subject and its word while being denied by discourse.
