Technical inspection is a criminal investigation activity aimed at recording the conditions of the crime scene, including the evidence found. This investigative diligence requires compliance with a systematic process which, when omitted, generates a series of consequences that seriously affect the inspection. Based on this premise, this research paper addresses the non-observance related to the actions of the officers as its central problem. Considering that the consequences of these omissions directly affect the function entrusted to them, and that non-compliance with the mandatory recordings established in the Single Manual for the Chain of Custody of Physical Evidence will lead to results that entail the absolute nullity of the procedure—given that there will be no certainty as to how said inspection was carried out, and consequently, such action will be completely ineffective. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to analyze the approach to the crime scene, specifically the mandatory recording under the guidelines of the single manual for the chain of custody of physical evidence. This study was conducted under a qualitative research approach using legal hermeneutics, supported by a bibliographic review and interpretation consisting mainly of the single manual for the chain of custody of physical evidence, alongside other manuals and literature related to the subject.
