Migration is a phenomenon that affects not only adults, but also the child population, living in communities where the inhabitants decide to migrate regularly to another country. In this sense, this article shows the research conducted in an elementary school located in a rural zone belonging to the state of Durango, which arose from studying contextual elements of the school community and identifying that more than 60% of the students had a family member who traveled to another country for work, and the fifth grade group to which they had been assigned wasn't exception. Based on this, a methodological process was designed with a mixed approach for the collection of information, where it was possible to know the way in which the students perceived and understood the effects of migration, by analyzing their opinions in relation to the departure of members of their community, the emotional and social implications they have experienced, as well as the way in which they adapt to the changes in their family and community environment. At the conclusion, it was possible to identify the main factors that influenced the construction of the students' perception, thus understanding how valuable it is to deepen the understanding of the context in which they interact and the way in which teaching practice is enriched.
